FAQ

China Visa – Frequently Asked Questions

According to Chinese immigration laws and regulations, visa officers determine the most suitable visa category based on the applicant's purpose of travel to China.

In most cases, your passport must have at least 6 months validity remaining from the date of application.

Visa validity refers to the period during which the visa holder is allowed to enter China. Travelers may enter China any time before the visa expires, provided all permitted entries have not been used.

A visa becomes effective from the date of issue and automatically becomes invalid once the validity period expires, even if unused entries remain.

Chinese embassies and consulates generally do not extend issued visas. Once expired, a new visa application is required.

Example:

If you hold a double-entry visa valid until June 20 and use your first entry on June 12, you cannot enter China again on June 25 because the visa validity has already expired.

The number of entries indicates how many times a visa holder can enter China during the visa validity period.

Once all entries are used, the visa becomes invalid even if the validity date has not expired.

Example:

If you hold a double-entry visa valid from March 20 to June 20 and already entered China twice before May 20, you cannot use the visa again.

Duration of stay refers to the maximum number of days a traveler may stay in China after each entry.

Example 1:

If your visa allows a 30-day stay and you enter China on June 12, the last legal day of stay is July 12.

Example 2:

If your visa validity expires on June 12 but you enter China on that same day, you may still remain in China for the full permitted duration of stay.

It is recommended to apply approximately one month before your planned travel date, but not earlier than three months before departure.

Applying too early may cause the visa to expire before your trip.

Example:

If you plan to travel on July 1, the ideal application time would be around May 1.

Yes. Travelers may apply for an extension of stay through the local immigration authorities in China before the current permitted stay expires.

Approval is not automatic, and overstaying may lead to penalties under Chinese law.

Overstaying in China violates immigration laws and may result in fines, penalties, travel restrictions, or other legal consequences.

Yes. Children applying independently must complete a separate visa application form.

However, if the child is included in a parent's passport, a separate form may not always be necessary.

Applicants holding multiple nationalities may be asked to provide all valid passports, as well as previous passports if required by Chinese consular authorities.

Important Notice: Approval of a China visa does not guarantee entry into China. Final entry permission is decided by Chinese Immigration authorities at the border.
